In January 2005, Tom Johnson opened his accounting and tax business in Roswell, New Mexico. Tom has an active certificate in good standing (license number 5811) from the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board and is authorized to perform services as a Certified Public Accountant. His accounting firm is organized as a New Mexico professional corporation, Thomas E. Johnson, CPA, PC. The firm has a CPA Firm Permit in good standing (license number 09833) from the New Mexico Public Accountancy Board and is authorized to perform public accounting services.
Before moving to New Mexico, Tom operated an accounting and tax business beginning in 1985 in Atlanta, Georgia, until selling his firm in 2004. Tom has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting and a Master of Business Administration degree in accounting. Both are from Georgia State University.
After obtaining his BBA, he was a Peace Corps Volunteer assigned to MARA Institute of Technology (a college in Malaysia), teaching accounting and business statistics for three years. He then served two years in the U.S. Army, including a year in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was awarded bronze star and army commendation medals and received an honorable discharge. For the next 15 years, he worked in industry as a financial services and statistical accountant, tax and financial reporting accountant, and corporate controller.
The current bookkeeping staff consists of Margaret Johnson, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University and a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has taught high school math and physics and has several years of bookkeeping experience using QuickBooks at various owner-operated small businesses.
Three quality reviews (peer reviews by independent CPA firms) of the accounting and auditing practice of Thomas E. Johnson, CPA, PC, were performed: in 1991, 1999 and 2002. All reviews resulted in unqualified reports, with no letters of comments. This means that in the opinions of the reviewers, the firm's quality control system is such that there is not even a slight chance that it will not conform to professional standards on accounting and auditing engagements. After 2002, quality reviews have not been performed because Thomas E. Johnson, CPA, PC, has been exempt from peer review. |
